The Day GoDaddy Encountered Donna After Dark

Node 35 | National Malarkey Emergency | Incident Report
STATUS: DOMAIN RESTORED. HUMANITY STILL UNDER REVIEW.
Today, Donna After Dark almost went dark permanently.
What began as a routine Saturday escalated into a full-blown National Malarkey Emergency when I discovered that donnaafterdark.com was no longer connecting properly.
The website that houses years of my writing, creative work, research, satire, and a rather extensive investigation into the human condition appeared to be gone.
Naturally, I lost my shit.
And then I cried.
Not because of a website.
Because when you’ve built something from the ground up, you understand exactly what it represents. And when you’ve experienced having your intellectual property taken before, the possibility of losing it again hits differently.
Meanwhile, people were texting me because they couldn’t access the site to vote for me in the Top Host competition.
Excellent timing, universe.
Enter GoDaddy Customer Support.
After some account archaeology, we discovered the problem, recovered the domain, and restored civilization.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Somewhere during the recovery operation, I informed the gentleman helping me that I date aliens.
Naturally, he had questions.
He wanted to know what I really thought about extraterrestrials.
Then came the reptilians.
At this point, the technical support call had evolved into an unscheduled episode of Beyond the Thin Veil.
And somewhere between the extraterrestrial dating inquiries and the state of humanity, we arrived at a rather interesting conclusion.
Maybe what the world needs isn’t to become more technologically advanced at the expense of everything else.
Maybe we need to become more human.
He agreed.
In fact, he told me he’d feel much better if that were the case.
Then he said he was going home to tell his wife about our conversation.
I recommended he begin reading The Adaptation Thesis on my blog.
And with that, I thanked him and wished him a nice day.
Oh, and somewhere along the way, he voted for me in Top Host.
Incident summary:
Domain recovered.
Website restored.
Top Host voter acquired.
Reptilian inquiry conducted.
Adaptation Thesis recommended.
One unsuspecting household potentially introduced to intergalactic relations.
Humanity recommended.
There is something wonderfully ironic about spending the afternoon fighting with technology, only to discover that the most meaningful part of the experience was a conversation with another human being.
Perhaps that’s the point.
Technology keeps changing.
But curiosity, humor, empathy, and our ability to recognize one another through the chaos?
Those are worth preserving.
The domain is back. The empire remains standing. And the investigation continues.
